Coca-Cola marks a new milestone in the NFT market with its exclusive "Masterpiece" collection on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network. The collection, ending its mint on August 17 (12am EST), is a vibrant melding of classic and contemporary artistry, all unified by the familiar contour of the iconic Coca-Cola bottle.
Coinbase's "Onchain Summer" campaign, which began on August 9 to celebrate the mainnet launch of Base, is the platform for launching this groundbreaking collection. The campaign spotlights a suite of onchain projects from art, gaming and music, demonstrating the potential of the Layer 2 chain.
The "Masterpiece" collection originates from Coca-Cola's global "Masterpiece" campaign. Launched in June 2023, the campaign is powered by the Real Magic AI platform, utilizing GPT-4 and DALL-E capabilities. The campaign seamlessly intertwines Coca-Cola's brand narrative with the magic of art, presenting Coke as not just a part of the story, but as the story itself.
The collection features famous classics like Edvard Munch's The Scream and Johannes Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, deftly intertwined with contemporary works by artists such as Vikram Kushwah and Aket. The result is a captivating digital collectible showcasing the influence of artificial intelligence, with the unmistakable Coca-Cola bottle design as the cohesive element.
Produced via the mint.fun platform, nearly 50,000 NFTs have been created as of the time of writing. These digital pieces are priced between 0.0011 and 0.014 ETH, with some intriguingly available for less than their minting cost on the OpenSea marketplace.
This venture is not Coca-Cola's first foray into the NFT space. In July 2021, the company auctioned four unique NFTs, raising over $575,000 for charity. Moreover, in July 2022, Coca-Cola rolled out 136 collectibles in recognition of Pride Month, showcasing its commitment to exploring the versatile potential of digital art and tokenization.
The Coca-Cola NFT collection is part of the broader "Onchain Summer" initiative, which also features collaborations with notable names like crypto figure Cozomo de’ Medici and brands such as Optimism and Atari.
